Gresham Smith provided re-design and construction phase support for an approximately 84,000-square-foot stamping plant for Topre America, an automotive stamping and assembly company. The plant is located adjacent to an existing Nissan plant in Smyrna, Tennessee, and includes two stamping presses, shipping, scrap storage, offices, and other support spaces within a pre-engineered metal building. The facility was delivered on a design-build basis, working in parallel with a general contractor. This approach required multiple design packages to be issued in order to expedite construction. Gresham Smith organized and facilitated value engineering sessions with the client and the general contractor to identify potential cost savings.

Following successful completion of the Phase I design, Topre then asked Gresham Smith to provide a Master Plan for an eventual additional 200,000 square feet of manufacturing space on the Smyrna site, plus design and construction phase support for a Phase II expansion to be built adjacent to the Phase I plant. The Phase II expansion will include two stamping presses, additional shipping, and other support spaces in an approximately 44,000-square-foot, pre-engineered metal building extended from the west side of the Phase I plant. The Phase II project will have a design-bid-build delivery and will require close cooperation between the owner and GS&P to meet the schedule.
