On July 19, 2018, an F3 tornado rocked Vermeer Corporation’s Pella, Iowa, campus as more than 400 customers gathered to celebrate the company’s 70th anniversary. While none of Vermeer’s employees or customers were seriously injured thanks to on-site tornado shelters, the industrial and agricultural equipment manufacturer lost two plants equaling almost 400,000 square feet of production space to the destructive twister.
Rather than re-establish itself elsewhere, Vermeer chose to stay, making a commitment to the community that it would rebuild what it had lost to the tornado and come back even stronger than before. Gresham Smith helped support Vermeer’s promise to the community by redesigning a new 500,000-square-foot manufacturing plant that effectively accommodates the company’s new and improved process flow, enhancing efficiency and productivity.
