With the mission of providing convenient, affordable healthcare close to home, WellStar Health System decided to establish a new health park in the north Atlanta community of Holly Springs, Georgia. The organization called on Gresham Smith to design the development’s anchor – a four-story, 112,000-square-foot medical office building offering primary care services and a variety of specialty provides in one location. With patient-centered care at the heart of the design process, the new medical office building within the multi-phase health park provides comprehensive care for the Holly Springs community.

Optimizing Operations

Optimizing Operations

Employees weighed in on the building’s layout and design throughout the design process, helping promote operational efficiencies. The imaging department is located only a short distance from urgent care, meaning high-priority patients are only seconds away from an X-ray. Clear, intuitive wayfinding enhances the patient experience, while shell space on the fourth floor provides flexibility for future growth.
Comprehensive Care Under One Roof

Comprehensive Care Under One Roof

The medical office building houses urgent care, cardiology, obstetrics and pediatric services, as well as diagnostics and imaging, rehab and physical therapy, a sleep lab and community classroom space. The variety of services under one roof allow Holly Springs residents to see their doctor, have tests performed and get prescriptions filled in a pleasant, one-stop-shop.
Enhancing Energy Efficiency

Enhancing Energy Efficiency

The building’s large, two-story atrium was carefully engineered to create clean sightlines, and the project team conducted daylight studies to determine how the lobby’s layout and exterior glazing would impact the building’s energy performance. The design team used the data to select a design that married a positive patient experience with energy efficiency.
Honoring the Community’s History

Honoring the Community’s History

The building embodies the WellStar brand while incorporating elements from the local community. The exterior is clad in brick, stone and metal panels, which mirror the materials used in other WellStar locations, while warm wood tones, neutral paint colors and stone work inside the building create a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Additionally, the design team incorporated milling artifacts in the landscaping and lobby, honoring the area’s history as a mill town.
