American-Sino OB/GYN/Pediatric Services operates private hospitals and outpatient facilities catering to an international clientele in the Chinese cities of Shanghai, Beijing and Huangzhou. Seeking to expand its services with a new hospital that meets both Chinese and international standards, the company conducted an international conceptual design competition to select a firm to provide architectural, interior design and structural engineering services for a new, 100-bed women’s hospital in the city of Ningbo.

GS&P developed the winning proposal by drawing on its previous experience designing hospitals to international standards around the world. Using a combination of evidence-based and Lean design strategies, our design seeks to improve health outcomes and operational efficiencies while increasing patient, family and staff satisfaction.

Surrounded by a school, offices, and residential buildings, the 269,000-square-foot facility will feature a modern aesthetic that enhances the community and makes the hospital a new landmark for the neighborhood. Sixteen LDRP executive suites, four LDRP presidential suites, two C-section suites, four operating rooms, four NICU beds, two ICU beds, 64 inpatient beds, and 32,000 square feet of outpatient clinic space will serve American-Sino’s goal of delivering the highest quality OB/GYN and pediatric care and fostering long-term patient relationships. Amenities will also include a patient and staff cafeteria, a grand lobby, a top-floor VIP lounge and a 250-car underground parking area. To respect privacy and deliver the utmost personalized service, patients in the LDRP presidential suites will have access to their own check-in, delivery and recovery spaces.

GS&P’s project delivery model incorporates the successful practices utilized to design and construct an international standard hospital in China. Using a collaborative team approach, representatives from the owner, design team consultants and contractor will contribute to the project success from start to finish.

"Our goal is to create a facility-of-choice among women in the region by incorporating advances in western design with elements to support Chinese culture."
