As one of three freestanding medical office buildings that define the boundaries of Phoebe Sumter Medical Center’s town square, the new Oncology & Surgery Center houses multiple medical specialties including general surgery, urology, neurology, cardiology, hematology and oncology services.
GS&P designed the two-story, 20,300-square-foot LEED Silver building to tie in with the overall historic concept of the medical village’s main hospital, the Women’s & Family Health Center and the Wellness & Education Center.
The first floor of the center encompasses medical specialties and an oncology suite comprising 13 chemotherapy infusion bays and a beautifully planted garden area that allows patients to receive their treatments outdoors, sheltered by trees and a privacy wall. The suite is tied to the hospital’s lab via a pneumatic tube that runs beneath the town square, delivering faster results from blood draws and shortening overall treatment times.
Surgery offices make up the center’s second floor, and Arts and Crafts details throughout the interiors reinforce the campus’ historical theme and create a home-like, nurturing environment that helps reduce patient stress levels.
Providing the Americus community with the highest standard of specialized services close to home, Phoebe Sumter’s Oncology & Surgery Center perfectly balances cutting-edge technology, historic aesthetics and patient-centered care.
