To better integrate a new clinical office building and a medical office building into existing facilities, St. Francis Hospital turned to GS&P for a comprehensive overhaul of interior and exterior signage and wayfinding throughout the main campus and 400,000 square feet of interior space. The comprehensive improvements to St. Francis Hospital’s signage and wayfinding system have made it easier to navigate the complex, which enhances the patient and visitor experience.

Developing a wayfinding logic that successfully solved a non-intuitive, four-floor level change between the old main entrance and the new Butler Pavilion entrance was a key challenge. Timeless interior sign standards, coordinated with new hospital finishes, were immediately implemented in all new spaces and programmed to be expanded into all existing hospital areas. GS&P also developed a hospital-wide donor recognition program to recognize the patrons who supported St. Francis in ways that will benefit the surrounding community with compassion and care for years to come.

The exterior design features a 14-foot-high St. Francis logo on the new Butler Pavilion campus entrance. Working closely with the hospital, architects and structural engineers, GS&P proposed and developed what became a landmark design solution that incorporates the hospital’s new logo with the building’s architectural design elements. The design team also created a new exterior sign standard for the hospital campus that guides patients and visitors to multiple entrances and parking areas.
