Carondelet Health Network

Established in 1961, Carondelet St. Joseph’s Hospital provides Southern Arizona with a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services. When Carondelet Health Network determined to separate women’s care from its other healthcare services, they solicited GS&P to design its new 170,000-square-foot, $32 million freestanding women’s center and patient tower expansion. GS&P designed the facility to respond to the unique Southwestern environmental conditions, creating an architecture that not only conveys a strong sense of identity, but also unifies the various architectural forms on St. Joseph's campus.

Signaling a new era in women’s care in South Arizona, the comprehensive program includes 21 private labor/delivery/recovery rooms with Jacuzzi tubs and an eight-bed obstetrical triage, a 30-bed, all-private room Level 2 Enhanced Qualification NICU featuring 34 private and spacious mother/baby couplet care suites (where each mother-baby pair is cared for by the same team of staff throughout their stay), a respite nursery, and 42 private medical/surgical suites for urology and gynecology.
