Gresham Smith is proud to announce the completion of Baker McKenzie’s 35,000-square-foot Global Center in Tampa, Florida, which establishes the firm’s presence in the city and will serve as the North American operations hub. Taking cues from the leading law firm’s global culture and the surrounding city’s local flair, the design team created a sophisticated, versatile workspace that supports the organization’s drive to increase efficiency and innovation.

“We are building a world-class team in Tampa to service the needs of our global client base. Gresham Smith has provided us with office space to match our aspirations,” said Jamie Lawless, executive director of the Baker McKenzie Tampa Center. “We love coming to work every day in this beautiful, collaborative and highly efficient space.”

“Baker McKenzie’s one-team approach was the foundation of our team’s design,” said Heather Dodd, IIDA, NCIDQ, LEED Green Associate, interior designer, Gresham Smith. “By integrating the latest workplace technologies and working diligently to create a collaborative and flexible layout with a variety of activity settings, the new space enables employees to work anywhere. The new space is unique, contemporary and energetic, yet polished and culturally-fluent. We’re honored to welcome Baker McKenzie to Tampa and know that their new workspace will serve them well for many years to come.”

Located on the 10th floor of Tampa’s SunTrust Financial Centre, guests are greeted in the reception area by a large feature wall and light oak floors laid in a timeless herringbone pattern. The office includes open workstations that encourage collaboration and huddle spaces for impromptu team meetings, as well as privacy chairs and focus rooms for heads-down work. Additionally, the office’s work café serves as a community space for their more than 300 employees, while the board room and training room offer additional gathering spaces for large groups. To further promote the firm’s open-door culture, the project team designed freestanding glass walls at work zones and incorporated glass fronts on private offices. Signage, artwork and wall graphics reflect Baker McKenzie’s corporate identity and work together to communicate a cohesive message.

Gresham Smith provided interior design, structural engineering and experiential design and wayfinding services for the project.
