Gresham Smith Joins Brent Spence Bridge Corridor Project as Utility Leader
Gresham Smith is proud to announce that it has been selected to serve on the landmark Brent Spence Bridge Corridor project team working alongside AECOM. The project will be managed by the Transportation market with support from the utility services group and the Water + Environment market.
The project calls for rehabilitation of the Brent Spence Bridge, which serves as a major gateway for travelers along Interstates 71 and 75 between Ohio and Kentucky, as well as construction of a new companion bridge, and 8 miles of interstate and ramp improvements to reduce congestion. The project is expected to improve traffic flow and safety as well as maintain key regional and national transportation corridors.
“The Brent Spence Bridge Corridor project will have a tremendous impact on the heavily congested corridor linking Northern Kentucky to Cincinnati,” said Nick Hendrix, state Transportation leader for Kentucky at Gresham Smith. “We are proud to contribute our expertise in utility coordination, roadway drainage and stormwater design on this project of national significance.”
Gresham Smith will lead utility coordination for the entire project and will be responsible for roadway drainage design along the corridor in Kentucky. Representatives from the firm’s Water + Environment market will also play a significant role in the project. The project team will lead an assessment of the existing flood pumping station in Covington, Kentucky to continue providing protection to the surrounding communities as well as evaluate separating stormwater from the combined sewer system to reduce the negative environmental impact of combined sewer overflows. The team will work with local authorities to assess what changes need to be made to accommodate for the future impact of the bridge corridor project.
