Gresham Smith is proud to announce that the firm was selected to design The Water Tower Global Innovation Hub in Gwinnett County, Georgia. Named after the County’s iconic water towers that once lived along I-85, the innovation campus will bring together utilities, technology providers, educational institutions and other industry partners to create a thriving ecosystem of water innovation fueled by imagination, informed by research and powered by pioneers.

The initial phase of the project includes a 55,000-square-foot, three-story building with office and collaboration spaces, classroom and meeting spaces and a large multi-purpose space, as well as multiple laboratories for studies, experiments and tests. Gresham Smith will also design a conveyance network, which will bring various process streams from F. Wayne Hill Water Resources Center (WRC) to support bench-scale, full-scale and pilot studies. The firm will also provide construction management services throughout the project.

“We are so excited to partner with Gresham Smith on the design of The Water Tower Innovation Center,” said Melissa Meeker, CEO of The Water Tower. “Their team has both a strong architectural expertise and a clear understanding of the water industry, making them uniquely qualified to guide us to a solid design, while helping control costs and expedite the schedule.”

“Gresham Smith looks forward to bringing our expertise from both horizontal and vertical markets to this exciting project. We feel very privileged for the opportunity to work with Gwinnett County to bring this one-of-a-kind project to life,” commented Srinivas Jalla, P.E., PMP, senior vice president at Gresham Smith. “Gwinnett County’s historic water towers were icons of innovation and ambition, and The Water Tower aims to embody that spirit again by leveraging the cutting-edge treatment systems at F. Wayne Hill WRC to advance water treatment technologies and spur economic growth.”

Gresham Smith’s civil engineers will prepare site plans, design site infrastructure and implement stormwater management features, while the firm’s architects, structural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineers, and interior designers will design a building that supports GCDWR’s operational goals and elevates the end-user’s experience. Gresham Smith’s water resources engineers will design the facility’s utilities and conveyance systems, as well as wastewater process flows from F. Wayne Hill WRC, while the firm’s commissioning agents will confirm that the building’s HVAC, power and lighting control systems are installed and operating correctly.

Gresham Smith currently provides on-call engineering services for the F. Wayne Hill WRC and other Gwinnett County water infrastructure projects. F. Wayne Hill WRC is one of the most technologically advanced treatment facilities in the country, returning treated water to Lake Lanier, which is Metro Atlanta’s most vital drinking water source.
