Gresham Smith announces that the firm provided Brighter Development Company with engineering and landscape architecture services for an 18-townhome community on Delta Avenue in Nashville, Tennessee’s historic Buena Vista neighborhood. Named The Artisan North, the project will add both market rate and affordable housing options to the evolving urban neighborhood while improving mobility options and enhancing connectivity for residents.

“Situated between Nashville’s Buchanan Arts District and Germantown, Historic Buena Vista is a unique neighborhood full of creativity and character,” commented Sean Davidson, president of Brighter Development Company. “We enjoyed working with Gresham Smith to create a development that supports Historic Buena Vista’s growth and provides a variety of more affordable price points close to downtown.”

“As the city of Nashville continues to grow, it’s important that we support residents with additional housing choices and connections to local transit,” commented Dustin Scruggs, P.E., civil engineer at Gresham Smith. “By providing a broad range of housing types, improving access to transit and using sidewalks and landscape elements to create a connected community, The Artisan North development will enhance quality of life for residents.”

Gresham Smith developed a comprehensive site plan and assisted with utility improvements, working with the Metro Nashville Department of Water Services to develop underground detention systems to control stormwater overflow. Additionally, the project team coordinated with the Metro Nashville Department of Public Works to design sidewalks and bike racks, creating a walkable, bikeable neighborhood with easy access to mass transit.
