Gresham Smith’s Amy Hardin to Speak at AIA Leadership Summit
Gresham Smith is proud to announce that Life and Work Places Architect Amy Hardin, AIA LEED AP BD+C, will be a speaker on a panel at AIA Leadership Summit 2024 that’s being held from Feb. 27 to March 1 in Washington, D.C.
Hardin will be on the panel called “Designing the Future: AIA’s Vision for Chief City Architects in Local Governance,” where she will provide insight on the research that the Government Relations Committee, which she co-chairs for AIA Middle Tennessee, has completed over the years to understand what the chief city architect position is and what it could mean for the city of Nashville, Tennessee.
AIA Leadership Summit 2024 is the premier advocacy and leadership training event for AIA chapter leaders. This annual event is designed to help AIA chapter leaders maximize their leadership potential in their chapters, communities, and the architecture profession. More information on the panel is below.
Designing the Future: AIA’s Vision for Chief City Architects in Local Governance

21st-century cities face unprecedented challenges related to the built environment. From land use policies to energy efficiency and resilience, these challenges require the expertise of licensed design professionals. Very few cities have staff architects trained to address these issues in critical local government leadership positions. A chief city architect would allow local governments to have someone on staff who understands the community’s unique built environment needs based on its size, values and existing governing structures. The purpose of the session is to learn more about the importance of the chief city architect program that AIA National is promoting and how members can work closely with local governments to advocate for the position.
