Building on a 30+ year relationship, Gresham Smith partnered with the Norfolk Airport Authority (NAA) in the design of a new General Aviation U.S. Customs and Border Protection Facility at Norfolk International Airport (ORF) in Norfolk, Virginia. Marrying security with a sense of place, the facility provides a warm welcome to passengers on private and unscheduled charter flights arriving in the United States.

Our team worked closely with the airport, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) on this all-new facility. The large, open space complies with current CBP regulations to provide ample inspection area for CBP agents to process passengers. Throughout the design process, we prioritized creating a layout that maximizes operational efficiencies and creates an intuitive circulation pattern.
