Gresham Smith-Designed M.T. Mustian Center Recognized by AIA Jacksonville
Gresham Smith is proud to announce that the firm’s design for the M.T. Mustian Center, Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare’s (TMH) ICU and surgery tower, was honored with an Award of Excellence in the Commercial Built category by the American Institute of Architects Jacksonville chapter (AIA Jacksonville). The project team accepted the award virtually at AIA Jacksonville’s Design and Honor Awards Gala on Friday, October 16.
“From the master plan we created in 2011, to breaking ground in 2019, this project required forethought for the Tallahassee region,” said Skip Yauger, AIA, LEED AP, senior vice president at Gresham Smith. “We’re honored our comprehensive M.T. Mustian Center design is being recognized, as it provides a flexible, efficient and human-centric environment for patients and staff alike.”
The M.T. Mustian Center provides state-of-the-art critical care services with cutting-edge adult intensive care units to meet the growing demand of the Tallahassee region. Gresham Smith worked with TMH from inception to completion, developing a master plan and design that anticipates the region’s needs for the next 50 years. Using Lean design and a research-backed, human-centered approach, the firm created a space that supports enhanced care, building efficiency and staff effectiveness. Gresham Smith provided master planning, programming, architecture, interior design, wayfinding and mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) engineering services for this project.
The AIA Jacksonville Design and Honor Awards Program honors members, advocates, and industry participants in the Jacksonville architectural profession. These awards encourage excellence in architecture to elevate public consciousness of good planning and design, and recognize those whose work or advocacy enriches the built environment. Design and Honor Awards are bestowed upon members and participants who have contributed to the advancement of architecture, urban planning, art and craftsmanship.
