Gresham Smith announces the completion of Novant Health’s Mint Hill Medical Center, a full-service hospital and attached physician’s plaza in Mint Hill, N.C. Novant Health and the firm worked together to create a community asset that provides quality healthcare close to home.
“We are excited to provide access to affordable, high-quality care for Charlotte’s Mint Hill community,” commented Joy Greear, president and chief operating officer, Novant Health Mint Hill Medical Center. “The completion of Mint Hill Medical Center represents a new era in healthcare, where preventing illness or moving towards recovery is just the beginning. Gresham Smith designed our new facility in a way that emphasizes convenience and comfort, allowing us to care for Mint Hill residents in their own neighborhood.”
“Our team partnered with Novant Health throughout the planning and design process to understand their goals and meet the facility’s needs. The design is intended to create a warm, welcoming patient experience while equipping staff to provide the high level of care Novant Health is known for,” commented Dave King, AIA, regional vice president at Gresham Smith. “We are proud to have helped bring the Mint Hill Medical Center to reality and improve access to quality healthcare for the surrounding community.”
The nearly 207,000-square-foot, three-story facility was designed to feel like a destination. On the exterior, a mix of metal and stonework ties into the site’s surroundings while arched canopies and rocking chairs create a welcoming environment. Inside the building, soothing colors, floor-to-ceiling glass corridors and views of the campus’ multiple gardens and walking trails bring the outdoors in, flooding the space with natural light and fostering a healing environment.
The full-service 36-bed hospital and adjacent medical office building houses cardiology, emergency, surgery, and women’s services, as well as advanced imaging, laboratory and transitional care departments. The hospital’s all private, standardized patient rooms with attached bathrooms, sleeper sofas, lighting and temperature controls, and USB charging ports provide comfort and convenience for patients and visitors. Decentralized nurse stations and supplies and bedside computers for charting keep care close to patients in accordance with Novant Health’s approach to care, as well as promote efficiencies. Patient lifts and dedicated behavioral health treatment spaces promote patient safety and empower staff to provide the highest-level of care.
Gresham Smith provided architecture, interior design and structural engineering services.
