Gresham Smith recently celebrated the groundbreaking for the new H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute’s Clinical Support Building. The firm is providing architectural and interior design services for the 200,000-square-foot project. It will create a new workplace environment promoting collaboration between faculty on six floors of the eight-story building and house state-of-the-art clinical labs on two floors. Gresham Smith’s highly efficient, sophisticated design will support the center’s continued growth and streamline clinical support processes. Construction is expected to complete in early 2020.

“We have a strong history with Gresham Smith and are very pleased to work with them again, this time on faculty offices and much-needed clinical expansion,” commented Don Futrell, vice president of facilities & support services at H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute. “We are confident it will be a beautiful and functional addition to MCC’s campus that illustrates the advancement of the center as the best cancer research and treatment destination in the region. Our staff and faculty will be able to work together in a single building, collaborating to support the health and wellbeing of both Moffitt’s patients and employees. The new building also frees up space in our existing facility for more beds, increasing the number of patients we are able to treat. Our team looks forward to bringing this project to life.”

“Gresham Smith’s designers are working hard to achieve seamless project delivery, with a high-quality, operationally efficient facility as the primary goal,” said Leith Oatman,  LEED AP, senior vice president at Gresham Smith. “We are creating a collaborative interior that supports staff operations and meets the needs of each employee, so that they are well-equipped to pursue the center’s mission to prevent and cure cancer. It’s very rewarding to work on this newest addition to H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute’s campus for such an important organization, knowing our design solutions will enhance MCC’s needs for many years to come.”

The project is being delivered as a design-build partnership with Creative Contractors, Inc. of Clearwater, Fla. Throughout design, Gresham Smith has worked with Moffitt’s leadership team to provide change management services to support a smooth migration between all project phases and prepare Moffitt’s employees for their new work environment.
