As the State of Tennessee modernizes its aging Tennessee Highway Patrol facilities from the 1960s and ’70s, it selected Gresham Smith for our proven expertise in public safety facility design and future-focused planning. Gresham Smith led the design of new facilities across eight districts, including the new District 6 Headquarters in Cookeville.

The new headquarters will triple the size of the previous building, integrating essential upgrades such as a helicopter pad, ballistic-rated barriers, secure parking, and reinforced interior environments designed to enhance officer safety and operational readiness. Through the innovative use of clerestory daylight monitors, Gresham Smith is able to introduce natural light deep into the facility while maintaining complete visual privacy and protection. Once complete, the headquarters will be a high-performing, resilient facility that supports modern law enforcement needs and reflects Gresham Smith’s commitment to designing environments that protect, empower, and endure.
