Developing Our Future Workforce

In 2025, representatives from Gresham Smith’s Midtown Atlanta office established a new partnership with Atlanta Technical College led by our Director of Consultancy Services Jeremy Busby. The goal of the new partnership is developing regional talent and expanding access to careers in the transportation, transit and other design-related industries.

It started as a 9-week course in the spring that introduced ATC students to best practices for scheduling infrastructure projects, with a particular emphasis on transportation-related work. Students learned the critical role scheduling plays in ensuring a project stays on track, on budget, and on schedule, and how it influences overall project success.

Hear From Participants

At the end of the school year, we hosted a networking event where students had the opportunity to connect directly with industry professionals and explore career opportunities with industry partners such as GDOT and other consulting firms. This initiative is a key part of our commitment to workforce development, and we are thrilled to continue our partnership with Atlanta Technical College in the fall semester and beyond.

A Student’s Perspective

“The class was amazing. It started with Jeremy Busby at Gresham Smith. He gave us real-world experience. … One of the biggest things I learned was the use of the software Microsoft Project that I didn’t know existed. Now, I feel comfortable being able to use a Gantt chart, set up different scheduling tasks as well as understand things like the critical path.”

An Administrator’s Perspective

“We don’t work with a lot of A/E firms as part of our Career Connections program so that’s what made the Gresham Smith scheduling course opportunity so unique and so wonderful for our students. It’s certainly important that students are exposed to roles and career opportunities within A/E firms.”
