Advising a Data Center Client on Utility Needs

Since 2021, Gresham Smith’s utility services practice has been providing owner’s representative services for a hyper-scale data center client to support the design, construction, commissioning and interconnection of high-voltage power infrastructure for 26 facilities in Ohio and the Washington, D.C. area. We provide project management and technical support to the owner’s energy project manager (EPM) and assist with managing the relationship between the owner and the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) firm for each project.

As part of our Agreement, Gresham Smith’s data center staff assist with a variety of tasks including proposal reviews, assisting with EPC selection, and serving as the interface between the owner, the power provider and the EPC firm. We continue to successfully assist the owner with overseeing the incorporation of the high-voltage facilities into the overall campus plan by coordinating with all critical stakeholders, including construction contractors, sub-contractors, utility companies, site civil plan development and site security.
