When Miami Valley Hospital South looked to broaden their services as part of their long-term vision for the health system, they called on Gresham Smith to renovate and expand their campus in Centerville, Ohio. With a focus on creating an adaptable space that can change as technology and treatment methods evolve, our team created a new joint and spine center with expanded sports medicine, sports performance and pain center services. We also renovated their emergency medicine, cardiology and primary care spaces and added the facility’s first cardiac catheterization lab. The updated Miami Valley Hospital South is truly a one-stop-shop for comprehensive care, providing a state-of-the-art space to serve patients close to home.

The 170,000-square-foot, six-story addition blends seamlessly into the existing façade, matching the five-story patient tower addition the Gresham Smith team designed in 2007. The orthopedic center’s new two-story lobby features a sleek glass elevator and escalators, while floor to ceiling windows provide natural light. The design team used a palette of cool greys and blues, dark woods and metallics to create a warm, hospitality-like environment, which is cohesive with the rest of the hospital.

Throughout the project our team focused on creating a customized environment equipped with the latest technology, while also designing a space that can adapt to rapidly-changing technology and treatment methods. A centrally located physician office area adjacent to the hospital’s six new operating rooms allows all orthopedic doctors and surgeons to work together in the same space, enhancing communication and patient care.
