To bring a broader range of healthcare services to a rapidly growing population, St. Joseph’s/Candler elected to build an ambulatory services hub on an 18.3-acre site in the city of Pooler, Georgia. Gresham Smith was selected to provide professional services for the multi-phased project that will be built over a 10-year period to create a multistory, technologically advanced medical facility.

The Campus Takes Shape

Phase I of the larger campus project comprised a 83,000-square foot, three-story ambulatory services hub. The facility houses primary care, urgent care, an OBGYN clinic, shell space and tenant space. It also features ambulatory surgery, pre-admission testing and imaging and includes a da Vinci Surgical System powered by robotic technology to support minimally invasive surgery. Phase II will include expanded primary care offices, expanded specialty offices, wound care, cardiac rehab, occupational medicine, diagnostic cardiology and short-stay observation beds.

Convenient Care and Community Impact

Providing easy access, the new 18-acre campus will be conveniently located in a key location near two interstates and bring crucial medical services closer to home for the populations of Pooler and west Chatham County, as well Effingham, Bulloch, Bryan and Liberty counties in Georgia, and Jasper County and Bluffton in South Carolina. When complete, the campus will contribute to Pooler’s economic development by adding healthcare jobs to the community.

A Campus Positioned for Future Success

The new facility aims to attract the region’s younger residents by creating a welcoming and patient-centric environment and ultimately expand St. Joseph’s/Candler’s market share. Designed to easily adapt to changes in the healthcare industry over the next 25 years, the new state-of-the-art ambulatory services hub will serve as a regional destination for lower-acuity patients, offering inpatient services with outpatient convenience.

We are excited to support the Pooler area and its growth by centralizing and expanding care. Now residents can receive advanced medical care while reducing travel time. Gresham Smith worked to really understand our community needs and provide smart planning and an efficient design for a campus that Pooler can be proud of.
