Working alongside a number of local partners including the Georgia Department of Transportation, City of Alpharetta and True North 400, Gresham Smith provided a full suite of design services to enhance the operation of the northbound SR 400 exit ramp at Windward Parkway. Windward Parkway is a busy corridor with numerous neighborhoods, businesses and several large corporate headquarters along the route. The goal of the project is to provide the North Fulton County community with a commuter-friendly solution that will reduce trip times, especially during peak traffic hours, by adding additional turn lanes design to improve the traffic flow and improve access for businesses along Windward Parkway.

A local administered project with GDOT, the project added an auxiliary exit lane on SR 400 (US 19) for the northbound exit onto Windward Parkway, and the exit ramp was widened to add a third left turn lane. Windward Parkway westbound was widened to accommodate the triple left turn movement from the ramp. In addition to the geometric intersection improvements, four signals in the project limits were upgraded, which included mast arms, pedestrian equipment and vehicle detection. Gresham Smith provided a number of services including transportation planning, traffic engineering, public involvement and roadway engineering to develop final construction plans. The project also involved field surveys, environmental documentation per NEPA guidelines, utility plans and construction cost estimates for the design.
