Landscape Architecture, Planning, Architecture, Experiential Design & Wayfinding

Gresham Smith is partnering with the City of Murfreesboro to transform 150 acres of former agricultural land into Veterans Park, a vibrant, multi-use destination for residents and visitors alike. From the initial master plan through detailed design, Gresham Smith helped shape a bold new vision for this site and is supporting the city through construction administration. The city acquired the property for Veterans Park through a land exchange with Middle Tennessee Electric, creating a rare opportunity to expand its public park system. Working closely with city staff from day one, Gresham Smith’s multidisciplinary team of landscape architects, civil engineers and architects developed a design that responds directly to gaps in the city’s existing parks program, balancing memorable experiences with long-term functionality and maintainability.

Creating a New Destination Playground

Once complete, Veterans Park will be home to the city’s first destination playground. In addition, it will include three 30’ x 60’ open-air pavilions with restrooms, a maintenance pavilion, a 1.5-mile paved loop trail network, eight outdoor pickleball courts, flexible multi-purpose greenspace, and a 40,000-square-foot event area designed to accommodate community gatherings of all sizes. Regenerative natural areas throughout the site will reintroduce native landscapes and habitats, blending recreation with environmental stewardship.
