Planning

In order to accommodate a growing community, the Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department selected Gresham Smith to create a master plan for renovations and an expansion to their existing soccer complex. The master plan encompasses the existing 40-acre complex on the east side of Downs Boulevard and the planned 37-acre expansion on the west side of Downs Boulevard. Ultimately, Gresham Smith’s successful master plan facilitated the funding of the project by the County Commission.

Upon successful completion of the master plan and once funding was in place, the County engaged Gresham Smith to implement the plan by providing design services to renovate the existing complex, which included field irrigation and lighting, a replacement maintenance/officials’ building, and upgrades to the concession stands and restrooms. Our team then developed construction plans for the West Complex, which includes 10 lighted, tournament-level soccer fields, a concession/restroom building, fitness trail, a maintenance complex for the Parks Department, and a site for a future skate park and gymnasium. In addition, one of the soccer fields was planned for use as an access controlled, premier stadium field including a restroom and concession area.

As a result of Gresham Smith’s master plan, improvements and expansion, the Williamson County Soccer Complex successfully meets the needs of county residents and accommodates more than 6,000 children and adults who play soccer at the complex each weekend of the season. The complex is also a venue for state and regional tournaments.
