Gresham Smith is excited to announce that it has tapped two longtime bridge leaders to oversee a new marketwide bridge services line within Transportation. Adam Davidson has been named bridge services leader, while Tom Tran will serve in two roles—as technical practice leader and Georgia bridge department leader.
“We’re thrilled to elevate our bridge service line leaders into these new roles that will better allow us to deliver on the needs of our clients across our geographic footprint,” said Kent Black, P.E., executive vice president of Transportation at Gresham Smith. “We stand ready to assist clients in addressing their aging infrastructure needs to ensure the safety and functionality of our bridges.”
Since 2017, Davidson has served as the bridge department leader for the state of Tennessee. Under his leadership, the team has experienced substantial growth while delivering a number of complex and national award-winning projects, most recently the Broadway Viaduct Bridge Replacement in Nashville. That project received a national honor award from the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), and it was named one of the top 10 bridge projects of 2023 by Roads & Bridges.
A number of other projects such as the historic Gay Street bridge repair in Knoxville and the Interstate 40 over the French Broad River bridge replacement in East Tennessee are also underway, while significant bridge performance evaluation efforts are on-going. As an industry contributor, Davidson has presented at many national bridge conferences, written articles for industry publications, and previously served as an adjunct professor for the civil engineering department at Nashville’s Lipscomb University.
As Georgia bridge department leader, Tran has over 30 years of experience in bridge design and rehab for the Georgia Department of Transportation as well as the Atlanta Department of Transportation. He will remain in a leadership role in Georgia and also oversee the technical delivery of the bridge practice across the market. Tran has overseen a number of emergency bridge repair projects, such as the Cheshire Bridge Road in Atlanta, which received a national recognition award from ACEC, and US 17 in Brunswick. He recently co-authored an article on how local agencies can use bridge asset management strategies to protect bridge infrastructure in Roads & Bridges.
In addition, Donald McCrary will become the Tennessee bridge department leader, and John Weres will transition to a new role overseeing the Florida bridge practice. There are also a number of job openings for bridge-related roles, including entry and senior-level roles. Those openings can be found here.
