When Envision AESC, an industry-leading international electric vehicle battery technology company, decided to invest in a new lithium-ion battery plant, they called on Gresham Smith to lead the multi-disciplinary team to design their state-of-the-art Gigafactory located in the Kentucky Transpark in Bowling Green. Set to become one of the most productive facilities in the country, the 15 Gigawatt hours (GWh) plant will create 2,000 permanent new jobs.

The plant is poised to claim Kentucky as the electric vehicle production capital of the country, with the batteries supplying multiple automotive manufacturers around the world. Gresham Smith led the design for the state-of-the-art 512-acre site, which include a 1.5 million-square-foot facility. Powered by 100% renewable energy, the operation will manufacture up to 300,000 batteries annually by 2027 while supporting the goal of decarbonizing Kentucky’s industrial sector.
