Developing a Comprehensive Transportation Strategy for a Newly Formed City

To develop the inaugural comprehensive transportation plan for the newly incorporated City of Brookhaven, Gresham Smith worked side-by-side with City staff, elected leaders, and community members to develop the plan, producing a list of recommendations and projects that led to the first corridor study, Ashford Dunwoody Road. As part of this process, the Gresham Smith team documented status of recommendations and projects from prior plans and studies, updated assessments of previously identified priority corridors and community connectors, determined daily traffic volumes and level of service along key corridors, identified pavement conditions, reviewed crash data, and analyzed intersections along priority corridors and off-system roadways where corridor studies have not already been conducted. The resulting plan recommends several additional studies and projects, including corridor studies, bridge projects, an intersection analysis along Dresden Drive and several city-wide policies and strategies for consideration.
