For over a decade, Gresham Smith has served as city engineer and provided on-call planning and engineering services to the City of Helena, Alabama. The City has experienced rapid growth over the last two decades, more than doubling in size from about 10,700 residents in 2000 to almost 22,000 residents in 2023, and that boom has brought infrastructure and planning challenges. To meet the needs of their growing community, the City engaged Gresham Smith to serve as their trusted advisor and consultant to manage a number of engineering and planning services on behalf of the City. A snapshot of services include:

  • Review of residential and commercial development plans
  • Advising the Planning & Zoning Commission
  • Managing public engagement and meeting with local stakeholder groups
  • Traffic studies and traffic signal operations
  • Conceptual roadway design, engineering and cost estimations
  • Grant writing
  • Planning and feasibility studies
