Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) is one of the nation’s busiest airports. That leaves a lot of cars behind! To address the growing need for parking, the airport asked Gresham Smith to design a new eight-story parking garage. Helping customers park quickly and get to their flights, the International Terminal D garage adds 8,000 spaces to the airport’s parking portfolio, enhancing the DFW experiencing for passengers, while providing increased revenue and better traffic flow for the airport.

Smart parking technology allows drivers to solve the age-old problem of hunting for the right spot on the preferred levels, significantly decreasing gridlock and–for those who like to cut it close–shaving vital minutes off arrival time at the airport. Trying to remember where the car is parked after a trip can sometimes inspire panic, so each level of the garage is marked with a Texas-native wildflower and a corresponding color scheme to give customers visual cues.

The brightly lit garage boasts moving walkways and five air-conditioned elevator banks that lead passengers to three air-conditioned pedestrian sky bridges. Providing intuitive wayfinding, our functional design includes diagonally oriented pedestrian corridors inside the garage footprint that align with the terminal’s ticketing lobby entrances.
