Gresham Smith was selected by the Tennessee Department of Transportation to provide construction engineering and inspection (CEI) services for the widening of Mack Hatcher Parkway, a three-mile major arterial within the City of Franklin. The Mack Hatcher Parkway widening project adds two additional traffic lanes to convert the existing congested two-lane roadway into a four-lane divided roadway section with a continuous median. Two new prestressed girder bridges crossing Spencer Creek and the CSX Railroad along with five retaining walls and three concrete box culvert extensions are included in the project. It also includes a multi-use path with decorative hand railing, decorative street lighting, traffic signals, stone feature walls at the intersections, concrete form liner and stone wall finishes, interpretive signing at a creek overlook area and extensive landscaping along the corridor.

Gresham Smith provided full CEI services for the project, including inspection and testing of the roadway grading, bridge inspection and concrete testing, utility relocation coordination, erosion control inspections, traffic control inspections, asphalt materials testing, surveying for earthwork quantities, landscape installation inspection, contractor estimates and all material certifications.
