The recently completed Gresham Smith-designed terminal expansion at Asheville Regional Airport (AVL) was featured in the October issue of Airport Improvement magazine in an article spotlighting how AVL’s new North Concourse enhances the passenger experience while reflecting western North Carolina’s mountain character and natural beauty.
Led by senior vice president Brad Sucher, Gresham Smith’s team collaborated closely with the Greater Asheville Regional Airport Authority to deliver an expanded terminal that balances functionality with a strong sense of place. The design features abundant daylight, regional stone and wood materials, and intuitive wayfinding elements that create a welcoming, distinctly Asheville experience.
The result is a modern, efficient, and visually engaging terminal environment that celebrates the region’s unique identity and demonstrates Gresham Smith’s commitment to designing airports that authentically connect people and places.
