As one of the nation’s best airports in the 2025 USA Today 10 Best Readers’ Choice Awards, ranking No. 4 in the Best Small Airport category and No. 2 in the Best Resort Airport category, Myrtle Beach International Airport (MYR) needed a terminal that could keep pace with rising demand while elevating the passenger experience. That vision came to life through the airport’s recently completed terminal expansion and modernization program, led by Gresham Smith’s Aviation practice. The result is a brighter, more intuitive and more spacious concourse environment—one that enhances circulation, improves amenities and creates a stronger sense of place for travelers arriving in South Carolina’s Grand Strand region.

In a recent article published by Airport Improvement magazine, Senior Vice President Brad Sucher shares insight into the design approach behind the project. He discusses the team’s focus on reducing visual clutter, improving sightlines and modernizing finishes, as well as the importance of early alignment and collaboration in delivering a terminal that feels both contemporary and connected to its coastal context.
