Gresham Smith is pleased to announce that Christina Florez, P.E., has been named State Transportation Leader for Central Florida.
In this role, Florez will spearhead the firm’s transportation strategy and operations across the state, focusing on deepening client relationships, expanding service offerings and supporting the continued growth of the Florida practice alongside Regional Transportation Leader Jody Braswell. Additionally, she will work toward advancing multi-market, multi-discipline initiatives to broaden Gresham Smith’s impact across diverse sectors.
“Christina’s extensive expertise in operations, business development and strategic vision will drive continued growth and new opportunities for our Central Florida practice as well as our overall growth and success in Florida,” said Matt D’Angelo, P.E., Executive Vice President of Transportation at Gresham Smith.
Florez brings more than 20 years of comprehensive experience in transportation systems and operations (TSMO), specializing in intelligent transportation systems (ITS), traffic signal systems, data analytics, connected and automated vehicles and transportation management strategies. Since joining the firm in 2016, she has led and mentored teams across multiple states, including recent leadership within the Mid-South transportation team and the TSMO group, where she advanced project delivery, training and continuous improvement initiatives.
Her portfolio includes management of over 100 TSMO and traffic projects, providing technical advisory services for the Florida Department of Transportation’s express lanes and corridor management, and spearheading innovative projects such as the development and patenting of an award-winning Train Detection and Alert System. Most recently, she contributed to the Alabama Department of Transportation Regional Traffic Operations Program, enhancing traffic signal and ITS communication infrastructure and supporting implementation of new ATC traffic signal controllers, as well as the first-of-its-kind I-24 MOTION Test Bed project in Tennessee to better understand vehicle automation’s real-world impact.

Outside of work, Florez is committed to inspiring the next generation by engaging local schools, Girl Scout troops and homeschooled students in STEM-related projects. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Florida International University and is a registered Professional Engineer in multiple states.
