Gresham Smith Helps City of Louisville Secure Federal Grant for Broadway Master Plan
Gresham Smith is proud to announce that with its support the City of Louisville received $5 million in federal grants to fund planning and design work for the Gresham Smith-developed Broadway All the Way master plan.
The RAISE (Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity) program grant was awarded to the City of Louisville for the master plan that enhances safety, public transportation, pedestrian access, public spaces and socioeconomic conditions along a historic 10-mile roadway.
Since fall 2019, the Gresham Smith project team has supported the master plan through three phases; collecting and analyzing data, developing a variety of design recommendations and delivering the final vision for the Broadway corridor. The finished master plan’s forward-thinking design strategies and Gresham Smith-developed grant application enabled the City of Louisville to compete on a national stage to secure federal funding from the RAISE program.
“We know firsthand how important Broadway is as a vital connection to jobs, healthcare, transit and services. When implemented, this master plan will provide incredible quality of life benefits especially for those who need them the most,” says Louis Johnson, PLA, ASLA, senior landscape architect, Gresham Smith. “The grant will allow the city to continue to engage the community and take a critical step toward the implementation of the visionary plan to improve safety, accessibility and connectivity along the Broadway corridor, and we are proud to have played a part in securing the funds to do so.”
Gresham Smith supported the City by providing urban design and planning, transportation engineering, landscape architecture and public engagement services along with a robust team of national experts including Jarrett Walker + Associates, Street Plans, Equitable Cities plus local partners EHI, Mightily, Hyphae, and City Visions. This project has received support from leaders at the national, state, regional and local levels, as well as advocacy groups and stakeholders through partnerships along the way.
