Gresham Smith Names New External Member to Board of Directors

Industry Executive Ann Massey Brings Over 35 Years of Experience

Gresham Smith is excited to announce the addition of a new external board member to the firm’s board of directors.

Longtime industry executive Ann Massey, NACD.DC, has joined the board, effective June 1, 2023. Massey will serve a three-year term alongside the firm’s 11 internal directors. Earlier this year, Gresham Smith announced three new internal board members.

Massey has held significant executive positions throughout her more than 35 years of professional services industry experience. She has successfully led major business groups at some of the world’s leading consulting and engineering firms, including MACTEC, Inc., Amec Foster Wheeler, and Wood Engineering PLC. She also has a demonstrated ability and history of championing strategic environmental, social and governance (ESG) initiatives.

“As part of our criteria for an external board director, we focused on candidates who were intimately familiar with our industry and had ‘C-suite-level’ experience,” said Rodney Chester, CEO and Board Chair of Gresham Smith. “Ann brings a wide variety of executive expertise in the environment, engineering and construction industries.”

Massey’s background includes serving as CEO and President of Environment & Infrastructure (E&I) Solutions at Wood, PLC, where she oversaw revenues in excess of $1 billion for that group. During her tenure, she oversaw 6,500 employes in offices around the world, averaging 20,000 projects across 1,600 clients, including the largest project in the E&I group’s history ($431 million in total contract value). During her time as CEO and President of the E&I Solutions team, the group realized a 60% win rate with 5% sales growth.

Massey has been recognized as one of the most “Influential Women in Energy” by Oil and Gas Investor and Hart Energy, is an Honorary Member of The American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists, and was named one of the “Top 100 Influential Women in Georgia” by Engineering Georgia.

“I am honored to join the board of such a reputable company that I have long admired,” Massey said. “I am excited to have the opportunity to contribute to Gresham Smith’s continued success and growth.”

With the addition of Massey, the firm now has a total of 12 board members, including Peter Oram (COO), Randy Gibson (CSO), Dwayne West (CFO), Kelly Knight Hodges (CDO), Carl Munkel (Director of Risk Management), Jeff Kuhnhenn (Director of Architectural Design), Kent Black (Transportation EVP), Wilson Rayfield (Aviation EVP), Jim Langlois (Healthcare EVP), Carolyn Blake (Healthcare Technical Practice Leader), and CEO Rodney Chester, as Board Chair.
