Gresham Smith to Lead Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s First TSMO Contract

First-of-its-Kind Partnership Aims to Build a Sustainable TSMO Program

Gresham Smith is excited to announce that it has been awarded the inaugural statewide traffic engineering and transportation systems management and operations (TSMO) planning services contract by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC).

KYTC’s vision is for an actively managed statewide TSMO network. Gresham Smith’s locally led and nationally recognized team will help KYTC realize that vision by building stakeholder consensus, right-sizing solutions for Kentucky, establishing a sustainable program and securing new funding for Kentucky.

The firm is leading one of two statewide TSMO contracts for KYTC, and we’ll begin our work by leading a series of “TSMO 101” trainings throughout the state. In those trainings, we’ll meet with KYTC, local municipalities and other consultants to collect feedback and share a vision for what a future strategy will look like. In addition, we’ll begin developing guidance on key issues the state faces, and eventually we’ll partner with KYTC to identify and implement design solutions that improve safety, reliability, and efficiency across the state.

“We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to partner with KYTC to develop a broader framework for TSMO operations across the state,” said Nick Hendrix, P.E., Kentucky state transportation leader at Gresham Smith. “We plan to deliver innovative, people-first solutions across Kentucky with the goal of creating a sustainable TSMO program that improves safety, mobility and reliability for all transportation users.”
