Artemed Group, a healthcare provider that operates numerous hospitals and senior facilities in Germany, is working with GS&P’s Shanghai office to design their first hospital in China.

Located in China’s Shanghai Free Trade Zone, the 200-bed hospital will serve the medical needs of both public and private patients with 116 acute care beds, 12 intensive care beds, 22 VIP beds and 50 orthopedic rehabilitation beds. With the goal of providing high quality care at a reasonable cost, the hospital is designed with an efficient operations and management model that can be replicated throughout the country.

Artemed China FTZ Hospital will focus primarily on orthopedic care, offering in- and outpatient services in four specialty departments: trauma and sports medicine, large joints, spine and rehabilitation. Emergency services for orthopedic related injuries will be available 24 hours per day in six operating rooms, 20 outpatient consultation rooms, and two procedure rooms. On-site support facilities will include radiology, lab, blood bank and pharmacy space. The medical imaging center and blood testing lab will be equipped with advanced medical devices such as a PET/MRI and capable of providing services to other hospitals and individuals.

After the hospital opens in 2018, annual volumes are expected to reach 4,600 surgeries and 130,000 outpatient visits per year.

“This project provides us an exciting opportunity to combine our design creativity with German operational efficiency to serve China’s need for better healthcare.”
