The Emerging Technology Center project required an innovated design approach to convert a standard industrial building into a welcoming, high-technology facility that is attractive to customers and our employees. Gresham Smith worked with all of our stakeholder groups to understand our requirements, prepare a design that created a ‘wow’ factor, and worked closely with our team and the contractor to turn that design into reality.”Robert Zappacosta Manager, Facilities Engineering, Carpenter Technology

Upgrading Carpenter’s New Home for Emerging Technology
Carpenter Emerging Technology Center and Additive Manufacturing Facility
Gresham Smith provided architectural design, engineering, construction administration and field construction coordination support services for the renovation of an existing manufacturing facility. The manufacturing plant area was completely cleared of existing piping and utility systems, and new facility utility systems were installed—including electrical power systems upgrade, lighting, compressed air system, Argon piping distribution, HVAC, and fire protection systems. The new utility systems support the installation of new equipment that was installed, including 3D metal printers, ovens, furnaces and material handling. A new customer experience center was constructed in the front of the building. It includes conference rooms, lobby space, A/V elements, a kitchen and coffee bar.
