In support of efforts by the Broward County Aviation Department to improve the customer experience and passenger flow at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, GS&P is providing design services for facility-wide, multi-phased airside, landside and curbside renovations. The modernization efforts focus on upgrading the level of service of multiple terminal components, as well as upgrades to all public-area interior finishes. These projects will support increased passenger capacity in enhanced interior environments through improvements to security checkpoints, airside connectors, restrooms, hold rooms and wayfinding. Concessions improvements will support increased non-aeronautical revenue.

Significant project elements include:

  • Modernization and expansion of Terminal 1 (designed by GS&P as a subconsultant) as well as a new Concourse A (wayfinding and structural engineering services provided by GS&P)
  • Modernization and expansion of Terminal 2
  • Modernization and expansion of Terminal 3
  • An all-new one-step Customs and Border Protection (CBP) facility in Terminal 4 to reach a processing capacity of 1,800 passengers per hour (designed by GS&P as a subconsultant)
  • A wayfinding master plan, with airport-wide signage for all roadway, garage and terminal areas
  • All-new upper-level curbside pedestrian canopies, connecting all terminals and providing cover for commercial-service vehicle loading and unloading
  • Design and implementation review of new in-line baggage systems at Terminals 2, 3 and 4
  • A concessions master plan defining potential increased revenue in support of project development

The design is representative of the South Florida aesthetic: crisp, modern and clean, with tones and lines that consider the surrounding coastal environment. It represents the region it serves and encourages local tourism by the millions of domestic and international passengers visiting the area every year. The end result will be a vastly improved facility that introduces industry-leading amenities and services for passengers, better serves FLL’s airline carriers, maximizes non-aeronautical revenue opportunities, and supports the overall success of the airport now and into the future.
