Lakiesha Stanley Named to Charlotte Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 List

Healthcare Interior Designer Recognized for Leadership and Advocacy in Design

Gresham Smith is proud to announce that Healthcare Interior Designer Lakiesha Stanley, NCIDQ, IIDA, has been named to the Charlotte Business Journal’s 2025 “40 Under 40” list. The award recognizes young professionals who are making a significant impact in their industries and communities. Stanley’s contributions to healthcare design, mentorship, and working to foster environments where professionals feel a sense of belonging set her apart.

Stanley’s transition from emergency medicine to interior design gives her a unique perspective on creating functional, empathetic healthcare environments. Her medical background sharpens her problem-solving and deepens her understanding of real-world challenges, enabling her to design spaces that truly support patients and professionals. Whether in healthcare, education, or community projects, Stanley blends empathy with innovation to create environments that enhance healing, elevate experiences, and make a lasting impact.

Beyond her design work, Stanley is committed to enhancing a sense of inclusion within the industry. In addition to her role as an Employee Resource Network chair at Gresham Smith, she plays a pivotal role with the International Interior Design Association (IIDA), mentoring students and promoting equity in the field. Additionally, her leadership extends through her active involvement in organizations such as Women in Healthcare, She Built This City, and NOMA’s summer Project Pipeline.

“Lakiesha’s journey from healthcare technician to Healthcare interior designer is a testament to her unwavering commitment to making a difference in the lives of others,” said Jim Langlois, AIA, LEED AP, Healthcare Executive Vice President at Gresham Smith.  “Her leadership and advocacy are leaving a lasting impact on her community, and for that, she is well-deserving of this honor.”

Stanley’s dedication has earned her numerous accolades, including the 2024 City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Medallion Award, a 2023 Gresham Smith Award of Excellence, and the 2019 IIDA Emerging Professional Award for the Hawaii Pacific Chapter.
