Gresham Smith Project Honored with Award from ASLA Florida

Firm’s Multidisciplinary Project Recognized Through Annual Awards Program; Marking Ten Consecutive Years of Award-Winning Design

Gresham Smith is proud to announce that the firm’s design for the Baptist Health Care Brent Lane Campus was honored with a Merit Award in the Institutional category from the Florida Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects’ (ASLA Florida) 2024 Professional Design Awards program. The project team was honored during the awards gala in Orlando, Fla. on April 12.

“As a firm, we are proud to partner with our clients on projects that showcase community, healing and resiliency,” said Louis Johnson, PLA, ASLA, Land Planning Executive Vice President, Gresham Smith. “These values are fundamental to our work, and we are thrilled to see them recognized through the competitive ASLA Florida awards. The design process prioritized Baptist’s goal to pay homage to Pensacola’s history and environment, while highlighting the superior care provided by Baptist Hospital. We are proud to have designed the campus that will serve northwest Florida and south Alabama for generations to come.”

Baptist Health Care’s new medical campus in Pensacola, Fla., seamlessly prioritizes resiliency and sustainability with a focus on patient healing and community. The campus incorporates a range of innovative design features, including healing gardens and courtyards tailored to different age groups, all centered around a park-like 2.7-acre Town Square adorned with native heritage oak trees. The design prioritizes patient flow, natural light, and greenery, creating an outdoor healing environment that promotes emotional as well as physical recovery. The project is a testament to the client and landscape architecture team’s close collaboration and site investigation, resulting in a campus that focusses on human experience.

The ASLA Florida Professional Design Awards provide a forum for the review and evaluation of work currently shaping the industry’s environment and highlight achievements in landscape architecture throughout the state of Florida to a wide audience.
