Gresham Smith Announces Cody Crews as Middle Tennessee State Transportation Leader

Experienced Roadway Engineer to Drive Growth and Innovation

Gresham Smith is pleased to announce the promotion of Cody Crews as State Transportation Leader for Middle Tennessee. With nearly 16 years of experience in roadway design and team leadership, Crews transitions from his previous role as Middle Tennessee Roadway Department Leader to spearhead the state’s transportation vision and growth.

Crews has led transformative projects in partnership with the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT), including the redesign of the I-40/Donelson Pike interchange to accommodate Nashville International Airport’s expansion. His leadership on the award-winning Broadway Viaduct bridge replacement and Jefferson Pike widening project in Smyrna highlight his expert capabilities. Additionally, Crews serves as Gresham Smith’s lead transportation expert for campus wayfinding within the Aviation market.

While his primary focus will be Middle Tennessee, Crews’ leadership and project oversight extend statewide. His notable work includes the I-40 widening and interchange reconstruction and Highland Avenue Roundabout projects in Jackson and the diverging diamond interchange at I-40 Exit 407 in Sevierville. He will collaborate closely with Regional Leader Andy Lucyshyn, West Tennessee State Leader Greg Dotson, East Tennessee State Leader Jason Brady, and Alabama State Leader Blair Perry to elevate transportation initiatives across the state and throughout the region.

“Cody’s deep expertise in leading design teams, business development and strategic planning will be instrumental as we continue to serve our Middle Tennessee clients and expand our practice locally,” said Matt D’Angelo, Executive Vice President of Transportation at Gresham Smith. “I am confident in his ability to drive teamwork, innovation and success across Middle Tennessee’s transportation landscape.”

Beyond his professional achievements, Crews is an active member of the American Society of Highway Engineers, the American Public Works Association and the Tennessee Society of Professional Engineers.

“I’m honored to take on the role of State Transportation Leader for Middle Tennessee,” said Crews. “I look forward to working with our talented team and partners across the region to deliver innovative transportation solutions that enhance safety and connectivity for our communities.”

Crews holds Professional Engineer registrations in four states and is a graduate of Tennessee Technological University.
