Presentations Will Highlight Ins and Outs of Fitwel Certification and ICU Design for Reduced Sensory Stress

Gresham Smith is proud to announce that members of the firm’s Healthcare market will speak at the 2023 Healthcare Design Conference and Expo in New Orleans, Louisiana. Gresham Smith Project Executive Corie Baker, AIA, EDAC, LEED AP BD+C, WELL AP, Fitwel Ambassador, Healthcare Market Design Leader Chris Hoal, AIA, and Interior Designer Anna Claire Vawter, NCIDW, RID, will be joined by Baptist Health Care Vice President of Construction Services John Porter to showcase the recently completed Baptist Health Care Brent Lane Campus and demonstrate the value of obtaining Fitwel Certification. Additionally, Gresham Smith Healthcare Director of Research and Innovation Lesa Lorusso, Ph.D., MBA, MSArch, NCIDQ, Healthcare Research Analyst Tatiana Orozo, Design Researcher Dagmar Rittenbacher, and Senior Vice President Skip Yauger, AIA, will share how design decreased sensory stress in Tallahassee Memorial Hospital’s M.T. Mustian Critical Care Tower.

Healthier Healthcare Facilities – The Value of a Fitwel Certification

Leading by example, Baptist Health Care has achieved a Fitwel certification for the campus’ new medical office building, incorporating health and wellness strategies to a core structure of its new medical campus in Pensacola, Florida. Using this project as a case study, presenters will discuss setting facility health and wellness goals, incorporating them into the design process, and using Fitwel certification as a guide for design and operational strategies.

 

The Effects of an ICU Redesign on Sound Levels, Sensory Stress, and Satisfaction

This presentation will discuss how evidence-based design strategies can decrease sensory stress in intensive care units. Members of Gresham Smith’s Healthcare team will examine design decisions in Tallahassee Memorial Hospital’s M.T. Mustian critical care tower, sharing the results of their research-focused post-occupancy evaluation to better understand how the ICU design impacted sensory stress on patients, family members and medical staff.
