Healthcare Architect Asia Allen Named to Building Design + Construction Magazine’s 40 Under 40
Gresham Smith is proud to announce that Healthcare Architect Asia Allen, AIA, NOMA, CDT, LEAN, has been selected for Building Design + Construction Magazine’s 40 Under 40 class of 2021.
Since joining the firm in 2015, Allen has been a key member of design teams creating more than $250 million in healthcare facilities, using her strong leadership skills, commitment to improving the patient experience and passion for creating healing environments. Her project involvement includes the recently completed 504,000-square-foot, 186-bed full-service hospital at the Mount Carmel Grove City Medical Campus in central Ohio, as well as the WellStar Cherokee Health Park Project, a four-story, 112,000-square-foot medical office building for serving North Georgia. Allen has also taken a key design role on numerous other projects, showcasing her remarkable work ethic and empathy for the communities she serves.

As just one of four registered Black female architects in Tennessee, and a founding member of the National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA) Nashville chapter, Allen is highly dedicated to making the profession more diverse and equitable. She is also actively involved with the Civic Design Center’s “Design Your Neighborhood” initiative, an educational program that seeks to elevate young, diverse voices in architectural design, so they can solve transportation and affordable housing issues in their neighborhoods and become civic leaders themselves.
Allen is a Nashville native who grew up in the city’s Antioch neighborhood, an alumna of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and was named to the Nashville Business Journal’s 2021 40 Under 40 list.
