In today’s complex healthcare landscape, great design begins with vision and collaboration. Guided by these principles Healthcare Project Executive Penny Houchens, IIDA, LEED AP, and Senior Architect and Studio Design Leader Brian Schulz, AIA, ACHA, LEED AP, partnered with UF Health to evolve the UF Health North campus into a full-service medical destination focused on the future of patient care.
The article features the new 174,000-square-foot inpatient tower, which introduces 124 private beds and expands the system’s service lines with new rehabilitation and concierge care offerings. Every space reflects a commitment to healing, supported by resilient infrastructure and design elements inspired by Florida’s natural landscape.
Throughout the decade-long effort, the team faced unique challenges, including maintaining hospital operations during phased additions and renovations. With a living master plan and deep trust between partners, Gresham Smith and UF Health delivered a timeless, adaptable design built to meet the needs of patients and providers today and well into the future.
